The Survival of Sarah Rose is a Visual Novel developed and published by Happydeadalus.
Synopsis
We take on the role of Sarah, who is part of a royal family, the Rose Family. The Rose family has a stable and solid country under their reign and is mostly respected by their citizens and neighboring countries.
But very quickly, we are faced with the surprising murder of the King, who just came home from an excursion. As this wouldn't be enough already, the lands are befallen from a new group of rebels, which came from the east and threaten the peace of the country. From here on out, events keep happening and stacking against us and questioning our choices, fate pushing us in all possible directions. Our mission is to live on and not die in our ways.
We are faced with all kinds of different and unexpected situations; betrayal, threats, harsh tutorship, slavery... with all these different situations we face unknown hardship.
Eventually this causes Sarah to lose her status of royalty being looked at as being nothing but a normal girl, which often leads to her being used for sexual relief by her captor.
As this continues, Sarah discovers the forbidden pleasures that she would never have thought herself to enjoy, ending up desiring for more.
Routes
This novel offers us a lot of choices which will depend on choices that lead to various different routes and many possible situations. I lost count at how many different routes I had completed or how many there are left. This is amazing to be faced with many choices, it is not easy to try and get a specific route due to the sheer amount of different possibilities, and this truly shows us the devotion of the publishers to make this Visual Novel one of the best on the market.
You can choose to follow your long-standing brother's route, take the hand of your friends who disappeared while being young, become a mage, a warrior, and much more. I love this diversity!
World Presentation and Visuals
The world presentation is nicely drawn and represented, with a few exceptions in which I think it could have been better drawn, mainly character sprites, since they tend to be a bit too different from one CG to the other, and the entire structure of them is too different from its original art. The world is shown with variety and details which is nice to see.
Character sprites tend to have the same clothing but depending on the events, clothing and appearances can change. They also show on occasionally situations different facial expressions such as anger or happiness.
Character sprites do not move, but each character is distinct from each other represented with a wide variety.
Voice and Music
The Visual novel does not offer any voiced characters, but they have decent instrumental music.
We have different musical titles presented but we don't have a menu with a list of the titles or a CG gallery, which I still hope will be implemented in the future as the game is still in production.
Final Thoughts
The Survival of Sarah Rose is presented with a vast option of routes and possibilities. Regular choices will decide which routes you will encounter, which harm you will have to bear, and which threats you will be facing.
Happydeadalus did a great job in terms of story variety and choice matters.
The dedication of the story details and the events show the good and bad side of medieval times, deeply skewed with the combinations of other worlds being in a state of paradox between them.
I really enjoyed the theme and the mysteries behind each and every route that I was able to discover, and without a doubt, I likely did not find them all yet either, so I will continue to read through the updates to discover and try out more routes.
With this, I strongly recommend this novel further to everyone who seeks a lot of story choices and routes, and enjoys discovering the mysteries behind the story.
