Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou - Quick Thoughts

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou is an isekai (another world) fantasy anime by asread and White Fox that is based on the light novel by Ryo Shirakome. It features a young Japanese schoolboy, Hajime Nagumo, who has been mysteriously teleported into a medieval Western fantasy world with his teacher and classmates.

Hajime was abandoned by his classmates in a seemingly freak accident, and left for dead deep in a dangerous part of a monster-filled labyrinth far tougher than him. In spite of this, Hajime struggles to overcome the odds to survive and gradually forms new relationships with other people in this new world.

I have read the light novel series and expected the anime series will have its share of cute and funny moments with fanservice for the light novel volumes covered in season 1. This anime series did not disappoint, as many of the moments when the protagonist's harem of girls accompanying him vie for his affection are retained and brought out well.

However, the anime series also barely covered Hajime's relationship with his classmate Kaori Shirasaki who has a crush on him, leading to some gaps in the story for those who did not read the light novel series prior to watching the anime. For those who have read the light novel or manga series, the anime series also had some deviations to the original story in the last few episodes, which ended up making no sense when one of the heroines jumped into a major battle without doing any fighting at all.

Despite this, Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou has good theme songs, voice acting (I like that part when Hajime growls in a deep low voice when he is using his intimidate ability compared to his usual tone whenever he talks to his harem of girls), and great artwork and animation for the main characters in the story.

For those expecting the anime series to be all about fighting and surviving battle after battle with evenly matched opponents, this might not be such a good choice. For me, I like a mix of battles involving a gung-ho, overpowered hero with a soft spot for people he likes, and his harem of cute attractive girls with fanservice and comedy that is presented nicely.

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou is a decent isekai anime series worth watching, whether you have read the existing manga or light novel series beforehand or not, and I hope there will be a next season to cover the remaining 7 volumes in the light novel series.
